There’s something about a wedding at The Sea Ranch Lodge that just feels different.
Maybe it’s the rugged Northern California coastline. The wind coming off the Pacific. The wide-open meadows. Or the way everything seems to slow down the second you arrive.
Grace + Sarah’s intimate Sea Ranch Lodge wedding was all of those things.

Starting Their Wedding Day at Black Point Beach
Before getting dressed for their ceremony, we headed down to Black Point Beach at Sea Ranch for a little adventure.
Grace + Sarah flew a kite, popped champagne, ran toward the water, laughed, played and just got to be together.
No big production. No complicated shot list.
Just the two of them, the ocean, a bottle of champagne and that incredible Sea Ranch coastline.
This is one of the things I love most about being a Sea Ranch wedding photographer. There are so many beautiful places tucked along this stretch of coast that wedding portraits don’t have to feel like a formal photo session.
We can head to the beach. Walk along the bluffs. Let the wind mess up your hair. Run through the water. And actually make some memories while we’re taking the photos.
Sea Ranch Weddings Don’t Need to Be Complicated
This is exactly why I love intimate weddings at Sea Ranch.
You don’t have to fill every minute of your wedding day.
You don’t need a massive production or an elaborate timeline to make it meaningful.
Sometimes keeping your wedding small and surrounding yourself with your closest friends and family gives you something even better: time to actually enjoy it.
Time to be still. Time to talk to everyone. Time to look around and soak up the fact that you just got married on one of the most beautiful stretches of the Northern California coast.

It simply unfolded.
A Sea Ranch Cocktail Hour With a Few Unexpected Guests
After the ceremony, everyone settled into a sweet little cocktail hour.
We took a handful of family photos, everyone grabbed a drink and there wasn’t some giant list of things that needed to happen next.
And then Sea Ranch decided to show off.
Whales appeared offshore during cocktail hour.
Seriously.
Everyone was standing there overlooking the Pacific when whales started passing through.
You cannot plan that.
You just get lucky enough to be there for it.
Always Save a Little Time for Golden Hour
One thing I always recommend when planning a Sea Ranch wedding is to save a few minutes for golden hour.
It doesn’t need to be another big photo session. Sometimes 10 or 15 minutes is all we need.
The light along the Sea Ranch coast can change so quickly. The fog can lift, the wind can settle and suddenly everything starts glowing.
I’m always watching the light throughout a wedding day, and when that little window appears, we sneak away.
Grace + Sarah gave themselves that time, and it was beautiful.
A few quiet moments together. That gorgeous evening light. The ocean behind them. A chance to slow down and take in the fact that they were officially married.
Then right back to their people.
That’s how I love golden hour wedding portraits to feel. Not like another thing on your timeline, but like a little moment inside your wedding day.
Dinner in the Meadow Overlooking the Pacific
As the afternoon turned into evening, everyone gathered for dinner outside in the meadow overlooking the ocean.
Grace + Sarah incorporated beautiful handmade pottery, florals and poems into their celebration, adding these small personal touches that made everything feel even more like them.
And then the sunset showed up.
The sky changed, the light stretched across the meadow and everyone got to sit there together watching the sun disappear over the Pacific.
Dinner with your favorite people, overlooking the ocean, after marrying your person.
Pretty hard to beat that.
