Timber Cove Resort | How To Plan the Best Wedding

If you’ve been dreaming of a wedding with sweeping ocean views, dramatic cliffs, and a cozy, intimate atmosphere, Timber Cove Resort along the rugged Sonoma Coast should be at the top of your list. As a Timber Cove wedding photographer based just 40 minutes away in Gualala, I’ve had the joy of capturing countless love stories here—and let me tell you, it’s a venue unlike any other.

From the salty breeze and crashing waves to the warmth of the lodge’s stone fireplaces, every detail here is made for romance and unforgettable photos.

Why Choose Timber Cove Resort for Your Wedding
  • Unmatched Coastal Views: The ceremony lawn sits right above the Pacific, giving you a panoramic backdrop of dramatic cliffs and endless ocean.

  • All-in-One Venue: With guest rooms, a restaurant, and event spaces on-site, you and your guests can truly settle in and soak up the weekend.

  • Laid-Back Luxury: The mix of mid-century design and rustic elements feels elegant without being stuffy.

  • Local Photographer Advantage: I’m a Sonoma Coast wedding photographer who lives nearby—no travel or lodging fees, plus I know all the best light, angles, and secret photo spots.

Creating the BEST Wedding Day Timeline at Timber Cove Resort

One of the biggest keys to a stress-free, stunning wedding album is a thoughtful timeline—especially at a coastal venue like Timber Cove where the light, wind, and property flow all come into play. Here’s how to make the most of your day:

Sample Wedding Timeline for Timber Cove Resort

(Based on a late afternoon ceremony and ~100 guests)

10:30 AM – 12:00 PM
Hair & Makeup – Start your morning in one of Timber Cove’s spacious suites. The large windows offer beautiful natural light for candid prep shots.

12:00 – 1:00 PM
Detail + Flat Lay Photos – Dress, rings, stationery, florals. We’ll photograph them indoors to avoid coastal wind.

1:00 – 2:30 PM
Getting Ready + Candid Moments – Bridesmaids’ robes, groomsmen toasts, final outfit buttons and ties.

2:30 – 3:15 PM
First Look & Couple Portraits – On the bluff or in a sheltered cove to keep hair and outfits picture-perfect before the wind picks up.

3:15 – 4:00 PM
Wedding Party Portraits – All together while everyone is fresh and light is still flattering.

4:00 – 4:30 PM
Immediate Family Portraits – Quick, organized, and close to the ceremony site so no one misses a beat.

5:00 – 5:30 PM
Ceremony – Golden-hour light begins to soften, with the Pacific stretching out behind you.

5:30 – 6:15 PM
Cocktail Hour + Extended Family Photos and wrap up Full Wedding Party photos if needed– While guests enjoy drinks, we’ll take portraits on the cliffs, at the lodge, and in a few hidden photo spots.

6:15 – 8:00 PM
Reception Dinner & Toasts

Golden Hour, First Dances, Cake Cutting & Games – Kick off the dance floor, share your first dances, cut the cake, and enjoy any planned games or activities as the celebration continues into the night.

Photographer Coverage Tip

If you’re inviting over 75 guests, I highly recommend having two photographers. This ensures:

  • One captures your portraits while the other covers guest interactions.

  • Both partners’ getting-ready moments are documented.

  • Candid reception shots are captured without missing key events.
