If you’ve ever dreamed of a wedding day that feels both wildly romantic and deeply personal, a Sea Ranch elopement is the way to go. Tucked along the rugged Sonoma County coastline, Sea Ranch offers dramatic cliffs, rolling meadows, and the perfect mix of coastal serenity and natural beauty. It’s one of my favorite places to photograph couples who want to celebrate their love in an intimate, meaningful way.
This January, I had the honor of documenting Ella and Curtis’s elopement. With the winter sun dipping quickly, we had limited light—but every golden ray and soft shadow made their day feel all the more magical.
A Cliffside Ceremony
Ella and Curtis exchanged vows overlooking the Pacific, surrounded only by the sound of crashing waves and the salty breeze. With a simple bouquet of white and yellow flowers and the ocean stretching endlessly behind them, their ceremony was a reminder that you don’t need grand ballrooms or dozens of guests for a wedding to feel powerful.
Their vows were heartfelt, tender, and perfectly them—made even more special by the wild setting that seemed to hold their words.
Portraits Among the Sea Ranch Landscape
After their ceremony, we wandered around the property, chasing the last of the January light. From wooden fences that lined the coastal paths to windswept grassy fields and cliffside overlooks, every stop gave us a new backdrop that felt quintessentially Sea Ranch.
One of my favorite parts? Ella made her own dress. It was stunning in its simplicity—a natural, woven texture that flowed with the wind and mirrored the earthy tones of the landscape. Paired with Curtis’s tailored suit, the two of them looked effortlessly timeless.
A Sea Ranch Elopement to Remember
What I love most about photographing at Sea Ranch is how each elopement feels unique. The coastline changes daily—sometimes moody with fog, sometimes drenched in golden sun—and it always adds its own character to a couple’s story.
For Ella and Curtis, the limited winter daylight gave their portraits a soft, romantic feel. As the sun slipped below the horizon, we captured silhouettes against the vibrant sky, creating the perfect ending to their intimate day.
Why Hire a Local Sea Ranch Photographer

Planning Your Sea Ranch Elopement
If you’re considering an elopement or intimate wedding at Sea Ranch, here are a few tips:
-
Timing is everything. In winter, light fades quickly—plan for an early afternoon ceremony to maximize your portrait time.
-
Embrace the landscape. From cliffs to redwood groves, there are endless spots for portraits. Build in time to explore.
-
Keep it personal. Like Ella making her own dress, infuse your day with details that are true to you.
Whether it’s just the two of you, your pup, or a handful of loved ones, Sea Ranch is the perfect place to exchange vows in a way that feels genuine, beautiful, and connected to nature.
