Roadside Wedding Ceremonies Are My New Favorite

There is something so special about photographing a wedding ceremony in a non-traditional setting. Being out in nature with no buildings or structures is the most freeing experience as a visual storyteller. There are no boundaries and the photo continues as far as the eye can see.

I shot a roadside wedding ceremony at the most breathtaking spot along Highway 1 recently. Sierra and Matt have spent time at this spot over the years, and they decided to invite a few family and friends to celebrate their nuptials here. There was no need for tables, chairs, or additional ceremony decor. The group gathered atop a rock overlooking the ocean and you couldn’t ask for a more spectacular backdrop.

After the sweet ceremony, Sierra, Matt, and I made our way to Bodega Head for some couple portraits. Both locations are perfect representations of the Sonoma County coast and provided magical settings for our photo shoot.

Congrats to Matt and Sierra! Thank you for reminding me that sometimes less is more. If you’re newly engaged and are looking for a wedding venue, here’s a little nugget of advice: think outside the box. You don’t have to say “I do” in a church or at a winery. Sonoma County is brimming with gorgeous locations for intimate wedding ceremonies.
