Did you know that Hindu traditions say that rain on your wedding day is a sign of good luck? There are lots of ideas behind this, but one of my favorites is the concept of “tying the knot.” A knot that is wet is very difficult to untie, therefore if it rains when you “tie the knot,” your marriage is believed to be blessed with strength and will be much harder to unravel. What a beautiful sentiment and positive way to look at what could be a gloomy situation.
The couple I worked with at the end of March 2024, embodied this mentality beautifully. They didn’t let the rain take away from their excitement or joy. In fact, they embraced it and didn’t mind that the umbrella made quite a big appearance in much of their outdoor ceremony.
One of the very valuable lessons I’ve learned over the years is that events frequently have to pivot from their original design. Things happen, items get forgotten, a button falls off, or Mother Nature has her own ideas. Being able to adapt in these situations is vital, and Cherissa and Gavin reminded me of how much fun we can have if we learn to roll with the punches.
Congratulations to the newlyweds!
