The getting-ready spaces, first-look locations, ceremony, family portraits, cocktail hour, dinner, and reception are all right there. Consider a First Look. There are some great tucked-away spots where you can have a private moment without going far. This also gives us time to knock out couple portraits and some family or wedding party photos before the ceremony. Take advantage of the two getting-ready spaces. They’re close enough that I can easily move between the two throughout the morning, which makes photographing both sides of the day so much easier. Plan 30 to 45 minutes for family portraits. We don’t have to load everyone up and trek across a huge property. There are beautiful locations right near the ceremony and gardens, so we can keep family photos organized, efficient, and painless. Allow 20 to 30 minutes for wedding party photos. Again, everything is close! We can get plenty of variety without dragging your entire wedding party all over the place. Save 15 minutes for golden hour. This is when I love sneaking you two away toward the vineyard and open fields. The light over the Petaluma hills can be SO good, and we don’t need a ton of time to take advantage of it. Actually enjoy your cocktail hour. Because we’re not spending the day traveling between photo locations, there’s a much better chance you’ll get to grab a drink, hug your people, eat an appetizer, and actually experience the party you spent all this time planning. We can get beautiful photos throughout the property without making your wedding day feel like one giant photoshoot.

Flying Cloud Farm is easily one of my favorite wedding venues to photograph in Petaluma. It’s lush, relaxed, beautiful, and the way the golden hour light hits this property is seriously hard to beat.

There are so many great little pockets for photos, gorgeous green ceremony and reception spaces, and an indoor option if the weather decides not to cooperate. Everything is close and easy, which helps keep the wedding day relaxed and moving without constantly pulling you away from your guests.

And the owners are a huge part of why I love working here. They’re incredibly sweet, kind, accommodating, and genuinely wonderful to work with.

Why I Love Photographing Weddings at Flying Cloud Farm

Flying Cloud Farm is unlike any other wedding venue in Petaluma.

Flying Cloud Farm is one of those Sonoma County wedding venues that just feels good the second you pull in. Tucked into the rolling hills of Petaluma, you get vineyards, gardens, open fields, big skies, and that relaxed wine country feel without being too far from town.

What I really love as a photographer is how easy the property is to work with. There are so many different little pockets for photos, and you don’t have to disappear for an hour to get them. We can photograph a first look under the trees, knock out family portraits near the gardens, wander into the vineyard with just the two of you, and still get you back to your people and your party.

And golden hour out here? SO good. The open Petaluma hills and vineyard views give us that beautiful Sonoma County light, and we really only need to sneak away for 15 minutes to make some magic.

Flying Cloud also has that rustic wine country charm without feeling overly country or fussy. It’s intimate, relaxed, beautiful, and the whole property flows really well from ceremony to cocktail hour to dinner and dancing.

This is one of my favorite spots for sneaking away with couples later in the day. The open landscape, vineyard views, rolling Petaluma hills, and big sky are especially beautiful as the light gets softer. It gives us room to move, walk, laugh, and create those relaxed, romantic portraits that really show off the Sonoma County setting.

The Gardens + Ceremony Lawn

The gardens have a completely different feel from the wide-open countryside. With mature greenery, landscaped paths, and the ceremony lawn, there are plenty of beautiful little backdrops for portraits throughout the day. I especially love this area for first looks, family photos, wedding party portraits, and those candid in-between moments without having to wander far from the celebration.

The Little Tree + Bench & Grand Views

Tucked near the front of the property, this little spot beneath the tree is perfect for a first look. It’s pulled away from the main venue just enough to give you a little privacy, slow things down, and have that moment together before heading back to the celebration.
