The Tran family invited me to their home to celebrate the Lunar New Year — dressed in vibrant traditional áo dài to welcome the Year of the Horse. And instead of stiff poses or formal backdrops, we captured their family right where life happens: outside their own front door.

We photographed the Trans right outside their house, surrounded by blooming trees and citrus in their yard — a beautiful, natural Sonoma County setting. The kids held oranges (a symbol of prosperity for the new year), giggled uncontrollably, ran toward the camera, hid behind mom’s dress, and tossed fruit in the air.
And we let it all unfold.
There were snuggles.
There was chaos.

The bold reds and golden yellows of their outfits were stunning against the soft spring tones of Sonoma County. Mom’s flowing floral áo dài moved beautifully as she scooped up her youngest. Dad swung his little one through the air on the sidewalk. Big brother peeked out shyly, then burst into laughter.
