If you’re searching for a Napa family photographer, St. Helena family photographer, or a Wine Country family photographer, one of my favorite things to photograph is families making memories together while visiting Napa Valley. Whether you’re planning a weekend getaway, celebrating a milestone, or gathering everyone in one place after years apart, there’s something incredibly special about documenting those moments in a place you’ll always remember.
This beautiful family traveled to St. Helena for their annual family vacation, staying at the gorgeous Spring Mountain Retreat, a private vacation home tucked into the heart of Napa Valley. Every year they choose a new destination to reconnect, slow down, and spend quality time together. This year, wine country was the perfect backdrop.

A Family Vacation Worth Remembering
Instead of waiting for a special occasion back home, they decided to document this chapter while everyone was together on vacation.
When they reached out, they shared that they had found me while searching online for a St. Helena family photographer. They wanted photographs that felt genuine, relaxed, and timeless. More than anything, they wanted an experience where everyone could simply enjoy being together without feeling overly posed or rushed.
One thing that was especially important to them was finding an LGBTQ+ friendly photographer who would create a welcoming, comfortable experience for every member of their family. Creating a space where every family feels seen, celebrated, and completely at ease has always been something I deeply value, and I was honored they trusted me with these memories.

A Relaxed Session at Spring Mountain Retreat
One of the best parts about photographing families staying in vacation homes throughout Napa Valley is that we don’t have to go far to create beautiful images.
Spring Mountain Retreat offered everything we needed. We wandered around the property, chased beautiful evening light, explored different corners of the gardens, and let the kids simply be kids. There was plenty of laughter, playful moments, hugs, and the kind of authentic interactions that always become the favorite photographs.
Rather than focusing on stiff poses, I gently guide families into natural movement and connection. Those in-between moments often become the images that mean the most years later.

Why Vacation Is the Perfect Time for Family Photos
One of the biggest reasons families choose to schedule portraits during their Napa Valley vacation is simple.
Everyone is already together.
No coordinating schedules months later. No rushing between sports practices or work obligations. Vacation naturally gives everyone permission to slow down, enjoy one another, and be fully present.
Your family photographs become part of the vacation itself.
Long after the trip ends, those images become Christmas cards, framed prints, gifts for grandparents, albums sitting on coffee tables, and memories that only become more meaningful with time.

Planning Family Photos in Napa Valley
Whether you’re staying in St. Helena, Yountville, Calistoga, Napa, or one of the many beautiful private estates throughout Wine Country, I love helping families choose the perfect location.
Sometimes that’s your vacation rental.
Sometimes it’s a nearby vineyard, an olive grove, a quiet country road, or one of Napa Valley’s incredible parks. Every session is customized around your family’s personalities and the experience you want to create.
