If you’re searching for a Sea Ranch or Gualala family photographer, I’d love to share a recent extended family session that beautifully showcases why Gualala Point Regional Park is one of my favorite coastal locations to photograph.
Despite a windy afternoon, this session was pure magic. We leaned into the coastal breeze (because let’s be honest — wind adds movement and emotion!) and explored the park’s scenic spots until we found dreamy light filtering through the trees.
One of the highlights of the day was shooting in the cypress tunnel — a natural archway of trees that provided both shelter from the wind and a stunning backdrop for portraits. It’s tucked just off the main path and is one of those hidden gems that never disappoints. The soft light and layered textures made it a perfect setting for both group photos and quiet, candid moments.
We broke the session up by photographing each family unit individually, making sure everyone got a mix of posed and candid portraits. I also carved out time to capture sweet moments between the grandparents and their grandkids — those images always feel extra meaningful. There’s something timeless about capturing the joy and connection between generations, especially in a place as peaceful and naturally beautiful as the Gualala coast.
As the sun began to dip lower, we found a few open areas where the golden light filtered through just right — casting a warm, coastal glow that made the portraits feel truly magical.
Whether you’re staying in Sea Ranch, Gualala, or the surrounding Mendocino coast, Gualala Point Regional Park offers a variety of landscapes: windswept meadows, dramatic cliffs, forested trails, and open beaches — all within a short walk from the parking area. It’s ideal for family sessions, especially for groups who want both scenic beauty and ease of access.
If you’re planning a family trip to the Northern California coast and want to preserve the memories with natural, joy-filled photography, I’d be honored to capture it for you.
